sweetest essentials with a GIVEAWAY!

**GIVEAWAY CLOSED!! congrats to number 18: AMY! for winning the $50 gift card**

if you've been around this neck of the blog woods for any length of time...you know we're expecting baby six. you'll also know that we were pretty sure we were done having babies after miss evaleigh. which means...we basically got rid of everything. well not basically...we DID!

although, it's sort of a nice thing. mainly because after having all these little babies...i realize all the stuff we had that we didn't need. and we'll be buying FAR less than what we had with the other kiddos. (which is also good, since we'll be the ones buying it. ;) )

i recently was contacted to do a giveaway...all i had to do was share what i'd register for and what i think the essentials are. even though i'm not having a shower, it's fun to create a "wish list" and really? a "this is what we need to buy list". ;) ((i also have NO issues with getting a baby swing/bouncer as a Christmas gift this year! lol))

babies "r" us is actually doing a really cool thing...for every registry created from now until november 15th moms (and dads) can earn 10% back (up to $200) on items bought from your registry! how cool is that? if you're expecting...here's the link to create your own registry.

i created my own registry. it was super easy. and there are a ton of products to pick from...even some exclusive items to babies "r" us. and if you register in store...there are extra perks to that! such as a special welcome package, which includes a Baby Registry Planner with a full checklist of essential items, invitation cards to inform family and friends that they are registered at Babies“R”Us, a $5 off $25 coupon, product samples and more. AND if you r
egister online...you can still go pick up the goodies. ;)

in case you're wondering...here are a few of the things i registered for...

of course...everyone needs a car seat. i contacted a local car seat tech asking her recommendations for a large 12 passenger van. this britax chaperone was on her list. there are a few different color options. but we decided on this one. (plus *if* this isn't our last baby...we have a gender neutral seat and it will work if we ever have a little "g" baby. for now, we'll worry about mr. f.))

then i guess. you need nothing more than a bed for the baby to sleep in and some clothes. i actually found a great deal on a pack and play/bassinet set up at a rummage sale, so we are using that for the baby in our room. and i also found a used rock n play from someone for the baby to use downstairs to sleep in during the day.

BUT the baby needs some fun, too! so i also fell in love with this...
it is a swing AND seat. we've been thinking about which one to buy...either a swing or a seat. THIS solves the problem. and it's cute. and it's small. and that's what we love. i love that i don't have to fully make a decision on a swing or a seat, either! :)

most insurances are now giving breast pumps. so i didn't include that on my registry. but i also think a breast pump is an essential. i will definitely need a breast pump for this baby because of my MRI with GAD scheduled for shortly after his birth. it also means i'll need bottles. when dustin was a baby i actually was on a test panel for these bottle nipples...

i wasn't allowed to keep the nipple. but LOVED it. so i for sure want some for this little guy. hopefully it will make him eating from a bottle a little bit easier. i'm SO excited that these are available for purchase NOW! and that i had something to do with the design. :)

another item that will eventually be an essential, but not one needed immediately is a high chair. i discovered the graco 4 n 1 high chair. it covers ALL stages of seating for eating...another perk!
our old high chair went to high chair heaven after being used through five kids, so i'm sort of excited about getting a new one. and i'm thankful we don't "have" to have it right away, so we wait until we need it to buy it.

other essentials i think a new mom and dad need?
well there are really only a few things.
we loved our halo sleep sacks. i love the aden & anias swaddle blankets i've seen as well. (but never used them with the other kids, i think it's time to change that!) diapers & wipes, OF COURSE! and a cute diaper bag to carry them all in. we also loved our sophie teething toy with evaleigh. so i'd love to get a new one of them for this baby as well. maybe a few more little toys. and really...i don't think you "need" much else. well a baby tub is always nice to have as well.

and love.

lots and lots of love. and snuggles.

if you read the title of this blog post...you also read...GIVEAWAY!

one of YOU!! will get a $50 gift card to babies r us. (which is also a part of toys r us. so i'm thinking even if you don't have babies...you'll find SOMETHING! :) )

so.
how to win?

**simply leave a comment on this post stating what YOU think the most essential thing was when you had your baby! ((or if you don't have babies...what you think/see/hear is the most essential thing!))**

simple as that.

giveaway will end SEPTEMBER 30th. and is open to US RESIDENTS only.

the babies r us information and gift cards have been supplied from babies r us.

28 loving words from you.:

This may seem small, but my most essential thing with my baby was a bottle brush. Simple thing, but a life saver! I always hand washed bottles, and the Munchkin bottle brush with a sponge piece on the end was great, and it's only like, a couple bucks!

I got more use out of my nursing pillow than anything else

I agree with Lindsey D. My nursing pillow still gets used as a prop when baby is sick. I used this item a TON! Also a car seat since its the law!

It has been 4 years since my last baby was born, but I did babysit a newborn until his first birthday and the most important thing I found to be helpful was a swing or a bouncy seat. Being a mother to two toddlers while babysit I was always in constant need of putting the baby down safe to get something for my children and the swing was the perfect thing for the baby I babysat.

I am like you too and we gave away everything or threw away what was no longer usable. So now we are having to start from scratch.

I am glad you mentioned the breast pump and bottles. I didn't breastfeed my first two,but I am determined to BF my third baby and I am getting a free breast bump with my insurance, but had NO CLUE about the bottles or anything about pumping!!!

Thanks for the chance to enter the contest!

The boppy pillow! After my c-sections I couldn't bend or turn enough to feed the babies without it!

The most essential thing for me would be some kind of diapers. Nearly everything else can be immprovised.

After diapers I loved the swing.

Hands down...a swing. As a mom to seven children I have been blessed by many a happy baby when they were placed in the swing :)

My essential was actually a Boppy pillow! Before giving birth I thought it was totally a waste of money but then I had a last minute c-section and it made feeding my son so easy.

I was going to say a Boppy since it helps for nursing and then also as a place to support the baby when he/she is learning to sit up.
I would also mention, though, a carrier of some kind (I have a Baby Bjorn). I need something to help me keep my hands free and baby from crying when everyone else needs help!!

If we're talking about THE most essential thing, I'd say diapers :)

After diapers and a carseat, our most used items are a pacifier and clip, a swaddle blanket, a stroller, and bibs and burpcloths because our kids are big spitter-uppers! :-)

The swing for sure.. she hates the bouncer, so some days the swing is a life saver!

Oh for me...I would have to say a really good baby carrier! So helpful when you need to get things done around the house and baby wants to be held. :)

The baby swing was essential to me because my son had colic and it was the only time he wasn't crying(when he was in his swing)

Hoping to get pregnant soon... based on my sister's experience I would say a good comfort/soothing item or blanket. My niece and nephew were calmed throughout their early years.

I've always been a minimalist when it comes to baby gear. We didn't even use a high chair with our 5th baby! Plus she hated the swing so we got rid of that. And we never used bottles. So my list of essentials is super short: some clothes, diapers, a few blankets, a car seat. :-)

The most essential thing I think you need is a swing. I would have never got anything done with my second daughter without it. She had colic so bad for almost 3 months. It really was a sanity saver.

I'm expecting my first baby (girl!) this fall-- I've heard Pampers Swaddler Diapers are great for newborns, offer great leak protection, recommended by hospitals!
